Cruise lines release crime data

Until recently, the only information available to the general public concerning cruise ship crime data came from the FBI. Unfortunately, this data only concerned crimes that had been closed, meaning that reported but unsolved crimes were not included. Recently, though, three large cruise ship companies – Norwegian Cruise Line, Royal Caribbean Cruises, and Carnival Corp. – released their own data concerning the number of serious crimes reported since 2011.
According to the numbers, on these three companies’ ships alone, 237 serious crimes were reported, a substantial increase over the 44 crimes acknowledged by the FBI’s data. In many of these instances, cruise ship companies may be liable for the injuries that cruise ship passengers could suffer as a result.
